BREAKING: CAIR-Sacramento Urges Feds to Bring Hate Crime Charges for Vehicular Assault on Muslim Families

(SACRAMENTO, CA, 8/7/2023) – The Sacramento Valley/Central California office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV/CC), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on federal law enforcement authorities to bring hate crime charges against a man who allegedly tried to murder members of the Muslim community.

That suspect, identified as 33-year-old Robert Avery, was taken into custody this morning following an alleged vehicular attack Sunday at Heron Landing Park in the City of Rancho Cordova, Calif. Avery reportedly tried to run over Muslim community members of South Asian heritage while yelling racial slurs and allegedly threatening to “shoot and bomb” them. [NOTE: Initial police reports stated that those attacked were of “Middle Eastern descent.”]
