CAIR Condemns Possible Hate Crime Vandalism Targeting a Black Church in Salt Lake City

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/7/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned vandalism targeting a historic African Methodist church in Salt Lake City.

Police are investigating a possible hate crime vandalism targeting the Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church. Congregants reported a sign being torn down and police discovered graffiti reading “stay off my block,” “you are not welcome,” “no cheats and liars here,” and “f*** you.” Police said the graffiti incident occurred last week and was not reported immediately.
