Updated directory finds more Muslim women elected to office than national average
UPDATE: In light of current events in the Middle East, the release of the CAIR, JETPAC report has been delayed to a to-be-determined future date.
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/6/2023) – On Wednesday, October 11, at 12 PM (noon), the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Justice Education Technology Policy Action Center (JETPAC) plan to unveil the “2023 Directory of Elected American Muslim Officials” during a press conference that will take place at CAIR’s office in Washington, D.C., and online.
This directory showcases 235 American Muslim officials and judges from 30 states, representing a significant increase in American Muslim political engagement and diversity. A significant finding, 40.4% (95) of the Musim officials are women, exceeding the national averages of 31% for municipal offices and 27% for congressional positions.
