Take Action: Call on U.S. House Leaders to Censure Rep. Ogles for ‘We Should Kill Them All’ Comment on Gaza Children

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic leader Hakim Jefferies to publicly repudiate Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) and to issue a formal censure for his recent statement that “We should kill them all” in reference to Palestinian children in Gaza.

When activists highlighted the tragic deaths of children in Gaza, Rep. Ogles responded, “I think we should kill them all, if that makes you feel better.”

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Executive Director Edward Mitchell said,

“Every member of the House should condemn Representative Ogles for casually endorsing the mass genocide of children in Gaza, and House leadership should move to censure him for his remarks.

“If a member of Congress had called for every Israeli child to be killed, the entire American political establishment would rightfully condemn such remarks and call for, at the least, censure. The House is also long overdue to address the hateful remarks that Rep. Brian Mast made months ago when he equated Palestinian civilians with Nazis.

“The continued failure to address such genocidal remarks would represent a glaring and hypocritical double-standard given prior efforts to baselessly censure, smear and silence American Muslim members of Congress.”

He noted that Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was censured in early November for what Republicans claimed were offensive remarks.

The House has failed to take any action against statements made by Florida Rep. Brian Mast during a hearing made the following statement: “I would encourage the other side not to so lightly throw around the idea of innocent Palestinian civilians […] I don’t think we would so lightly throw around the term ‘innocent Nazi civilians.’”

In addition, he made a similar statement and added remarks on destroying Palestinian homes when confronted by CODE PINK.

Rep. Mast said, “These are not innocent Palestinian civilians across the world.” When asked about half a million people facing starvation in Gaza, he said that “the half a million people starving to death are people that should go out there and put a government in place that doesn’t […] attack Israel on a daily basis.”
