CAIR-Ohio Welcomes Romin Iqbal’s Loss of Law License

The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OH) today welcomed the Ohio Supreme Court’s decision to bar Romin Iqbal from practicing law after he moved to resign and forfeit his law license while facing a disciplinary investigation. Iqbal was previously executive director of CAIR-OH, but was discovered to be passing on internal information to anti-Muslim bigot Steven Emerson, who was communicating with and assisting officials in the Israeli government and intelligence

Monday, the Ohio Supreme Court accepted the resignation of Romin Iqbal. He has forfeited his license and can no longer practice law as an attorney in Ohio.

In a statement, CAIR-Ohio, Columbus and Cincinnati Executive Director Amina Barhumi said:

“We welcome this small win, as part of a larger accountability outcome. This is the beginning of closure for the community. As we have shared before, there will be consequences for those that betray the trust of colleagues and community members, and we will continue to update you as news unfolds.

“We thank those that stood in solidarity with us, and continue to do so, as we remain steadfast in our fight against Islamophobia in all its forms.

“As Ramadan is upon us, we ask that you continue to support the organization, as our work to protect and empower the Muslim community frightens anti-Muslim hate groups and continues to be evidence that our work is crucial and necessary.”
