CAIR-NJ: Protesters target Teaneck event promoting West Bank real estate to US Jews – The Forward

“Houses of worship should be sacred spaces,” a CAIR-NJ spokesperson, Dina Sayedahmed, said in a statement. “It is deeply concerning to see anyone use a house of worship to allegedly flout international law by selling off stolen land.”

CAIR’s New York chapter condemned the events and urged people to protest similar meetings next week in Cedarhurst, Long Island, and Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim American advocacy organization, said Biden has improved his rhetoric on the situation in Gaza but criticized the lack of a call for a permanent cease-fire not being incorporated into the speech.

“He must stop trying to play both firefighter and arsonist,” Awad said in a statement. “He shouldn’t need to build a pier in Gaza to get humanitarian aid past the Israeli blockade, and it makes no sense to simultaneously send thousands of new U.S. bombs and billions more in American taxpayer dollars to the far-right Israeli government.”

Adam Soltani, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations-Oklahoma, said his organization will host three Ramadan events, including an Iftar Dinner for Elected Leaders on March 16 at Coles Garden. CAIR-OK’s other events will include a Ramadan Day of Service on March 23 at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and a Young Professionals Iftar event on March 28 at Hummus Cafe North.

The prayer session, hosted by the Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, California, the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, and Islamic Society of Orange County, is titled, “A Night For Justice,” and will focus on spirituality, advocacy and draw “strength in faith from the people of Palestine,” according to organizers.

“The month of Ramadan contains many attributes and blessings,” said Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. “It is a month of fasting to grow in awe of Allah, cultivating sincerity, renewing patience, standing at night in prayer, and commiserating with the needy and oppressed. This magnificent and blessed month also has built into it the qualities of compassion and forgiveness.”

But Ramadan isn’t just for Muslims, according to Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, the executive director and chief legal officer for the Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
