Sacramento, CA – CAIR-CA, the state’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, welcomes the recent resolution passed by the Sacramento City Council calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The resolution acknowledges the profound impact of the conflict in Gaza on communities worldwide, including here in Sacramento. By advocating for a ceasefire, the Council has taken a crucial step towards alleviating human suffering and setting a precedent for other cities to follow. Furthermore, this resolution brought together interfaith and community leaders in support of bringing an end to the violence in Gaza.
“As someone who has suffered the consequences of the ongoing crisis in Gaza, I thank Mayor Steinberg for bringing together the community to push through this resolution,” said Basim El-Karra, Director of the Sacramento Valley/Central California of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). “Behind the scenes, he worked tirelessly to make this happen, by serving as a bridge between our community and the Jewish community.”
CAIR-SV/CC believes that peace in Gaza is integral to the stability and prosperity of the global community. The organization is committed to working tirelessly to advocate for human rights and to support initiatives that promote peace and justice at home and abroad.
This resolution marks a significant moment for Sacramento, demonstrating our city’s dedication to global humanitarian values. CAIR-SV/CC calls on community leaders, organizations, and individuals to join us in supporting the resolution’s call for a ceasefire and to work together towards building a more peaceful, just, and inclusive world.
