The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) today called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate an alleged anti-Muslim attack targeting a woman at a subway station as a hate crime.
A man allegedly threw a can at the 22-year-old victim while shouting “f—ing Muslims.”
“We urge law enforcement authorities to investigate this alleged attack as a hate crime and call on political and religious leaders to speak out against the growing bigotry that inevitably leads to such acts of violence,” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
Earlier this month, CAIR-NY welcomed the conviction of a man who assaulted a Muslim man on New Year’s Eve.
Yesterday, CAIR’s San Francisco Bay area office condemned repeated vandalism targeting a San Francisco mosque during the month of Ramadan.
Also yesterday, CAIR’s New Jersey chapter condemned vandalism targeting the Muslim Chaplaincy house at Rutgers University (A.K.A. CILRU, Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers University).
CAIR recently released its 2024 civil rights report, which reveals the highest number of complaints it has ever received in its 30-year history.
