The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a report by U.S. human rights experts showing that the far-right Israeli government is committing genocide in Gaza.
The University Network for Human Rights, along with the International Human Rights Clinic at Boston University School of Law, the International Human Rights Clinic at Cornell Law School, the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria, and the Lowenstein Human Rights Project at Yale Law School, conducted a legal analysis of Israel’s acts since its invasion of Gaza.
In releasing that report, the human rights experts stated: “Israel has committed genocidal acts of killing, causing serious harm to, and inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of Palestinians in Gaza, a protected group that forms a substantial part of the Palestinian people.”
The 100-page report, “Genocide in Gaza: Analysis of International Law and its Application to Israel’s Military Actions since October 7, 2023,” also states: “Israel’s genocidal acts in Gaza have been motivated by the requisite genocidal intent, as evidenced in this report by the statements of Israeli leaders, the character of the State and its military forces’ conduct against and relating to Palestinians in Gaza, and the direct nexus between them.”
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“We welcome this important report as further confirmation by human rights experts that Israel’s far-right government is indeed carrying out a campaign of genocide targeting the Palestinian people. This and the many other confirmations of the Israeli genocide must prompt action by the Biden administration to end its ongoing complicity in mass slaughter, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing.
“President Biden must stop sending American taxpayer-funded weapons to Israel that he knows will be used to slaughter Palestinian civilians.”
Yesterday, CAIR commended Defense Department intelligence agency official Major Harrison Mann for resigning in protest of the Biden administration’s military and financial support for the Israeli government’s war crimes in Gaza.
