CAIR-MN Reps in DC to Call on Minnesota Delegation to Boycott Netanyahu Address Over Gaza Genocide

Representatives from the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) are in Washington, D.C. today to urge the Minnesota congressional leaders to boycott Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United States Congress because of the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.

Israel has slaughtered more than 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded 90,000 others. Thousands more are missing, presumed dead, under the rubble of their homes and other civilian infrastructure destroyed by Israel.

A number of Democrats in the House have already announced their intention to boycott the event, while others plan to protest. Many of Minnesota’s Democratic representatives are expected to join dozens of their colleagues from around the country in this boycott. Some members have organized additional events for Wednesday, including one scheduled to take place during Netanyahu’s speech.

Netanyahu has traveled to Washington, D.C. to address the United States Congress following the International Court of Justice’s recent determination that Israel’s settlement policies and exploitation of natural resources in the occupied Palestinian territories is unlawful and must end. CAIR welcomed that ruling by the World Court.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is expected to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant within weeks.

Last week, CAIR condemned a threat by House Speaker Mike Johnson to arrest lawmakers who protest far-right Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress next week.

CAIR issued and action alert for Americans to call on members of Congress to boycott or protest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to a joint session of Congress on July 24th due to his openly racist views, genocidal war crimes, disrespect for the United States, and opposition to a Palestinian state.
