CAIR Calls on U.S. to Bar Fugitive Israeli War Criminal Yoav Gallant from Entry

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the State Department to bar the indicted fugitive war criminal and former Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant from his planned entry to the United States next week.

Last week, CAIR applauded the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision to issue arrest warrants for Gallant and for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.

The ICC said Netanyahu and Gallant are responsible for “the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare; and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.” Israel has already slaughtered more than 44,000 people, mostly women and children, in Gaza.

Gallant previously stated: “We are putting a complete siege on Gaza…No electricity, no food, no water, no gas – it’s all closed.”

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“Yoav Gallant is an openly racist mass murderer who described all Palestinians in Gaza as human animals and then spent a year starving and slaughtering them. The only international trip he should take is a flight to The Hague to answer the charges against him.

“Although our government wrongly refuses to accept the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, the State Department should at the very least bar this fugitive war criminal from setting foot on American soil.

“Welcoming this modern version of Slobodan Milosevic to America would represent the latest example of the Biden administration’s total complicity in the Israeli government’s systematic slaughter, mass destruction, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing in Gaza. The majority of Americans reject the presence of war criminals in their midst.”

Earlier this month, CAIR said that it considers President Biden a “war criminal” after his decision to continue sending weapons to the Israeli government after it flouted a 30-day deadline to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
