CAIR Calls on President Trump to Drop Former Israeli Military Employee from NSC Role on Iran, Israel

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on President Trump to cancel the appointment of a former Israeli military employee who currently is in charge of American policy on Iran and Israel for the U.S. National Security Council (NSC).

According to Drop Site News: “Merav Ceren’s appointment as Director for Israel and Iran at the NSC has not previously been reported, but her work with Israel’s MoD is well known among GOP circles.

“Ceren’s appointment gives Israel an unusual advantage in internal policy discussions just as the Israeli government has launched a new campaign to pressure the American government to start a war with Iran rather than continue with negotiations toward a nuclear deal.

“NSC spokesperson Brian Hughes confirmed that Ceren is now an official at the NSC and defended her as ‘a patriotic American.’…

“Ceren’s FDD bio says that while working for the Israeli military she participated in negotiations in the West Bank between Israel’s Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) and the Palestinian Authority. COGAT is the Israeli agency now refusing entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, sparking a humanitarian crisis of unspeakable proportions.”

In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:

“We call on the Trump administration to cancel the appointment of former Israeli defense ministry employee Merav Ceren as the director of American policy on Iran and Israel for the U.S. National Security Council.

“Putting an Iran hawk who worked for the Israeli military in charge of developing the American policy on Iran and Israel is a recipe for war that undermines President Trump’s stated ‘America First’ foreign policy.

“Given Ms. Ceren’s service to the Israeli government and her hawkish positions on Iran, President Trump should not put her in control of American policy on Iran and Israel, especially while the out-of-control Israeli government is trying to subvert American diplomacy and push our nation into war with Iran.”
