CAIR Invites Senator Tuberville to Visit Alabama Mosque After Anti-Islam Remark

The Alabama chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-AL), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today invited Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) to visit a mosque in Alabama after comments that people from blue states coming are not welcome if they bring a “communist, Islamic atmosphere.”

During an interview that aired Wednesday, Sen. Tuberville was asked what his message as governor would be to Democrats seeking to flee blue states like California and New York to make Alabama home. He said they would not be welcomed in Alabama if they intend to “bring that Communist, Islamic atmosphere” with them.

In a statement, CAIR-AL Staff Attorney Britton Shields said:

“Senator Tuberville was elected to represent all Alabamans, including Alabaman Muslims. We invite Senator Tuberville to visit an Alabama mosque and engage with his Alabama Muslim constituents. Although Senator Tuberville expressed fear about a so-called ‘Islamic atmosphere’ coming to Alabama, the truth is that American Muslims have been thriving in Alabama for decades, creating an atmosphere of fellowship, charity, and devotion to God.”

She noted that last year, CAIR called on law enforcement authorities to investigate an alleged threat to shoot up and bomb a mosque in Mobile, Alabama.

Earlier this year, CAIR released its 2025 Civil Rights Report “Unconstitutional Crackdowns,” which reveals that Islamophobia continues to be at an all-time high across the country. CAIR said viewpoint discrimination against those speaking out against genocide and apartheid was a key factor in many cases.
