CAIR Says Sharp Drop in U.S. Support for Israel’s Genocide Shows Americans ‘Waking Up’ to Reality of Israeli War Crimes in Gaza

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, said a new poll showing a sharp drop in U.S. support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza is another indication that “the American people are waking up to the brutal reality of the war crimes Israel is perpetrating in Gaza with American taxpayer dollars.”

According to Gallup“Americans’ approval of Israel’s military action in Gaza has fallen 10 percentage points since the prior measurement in September, and it is now at 32%, the lowest reading since Gallup first asked the question in November 2023. Disapproval of the military action has now reached 60%.

The drop in U.S. support for Israel’s genocide comes as The Netherlands banned two far-right Israeli ministers, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, from entering the country and the European Union has proposed suspending Israel from an investment program.

Israel has slaughtered more than 60,000 people in Gaza, mainly women and children, and has destroyed and ethnically-cleansed most of Gaza. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, a global initiative monitoring hunger backed by the United Nations,

“worst-case scenario of famine” is unfolding in Gaza.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said: “Palestinians in Gaza are enduring a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions. This is not a warning. It is a reality unfolding before our eyes.”

In a statement, CAIR said:

“This poll confirms that the American people are waking up to the brutal reality of the war crimes Israel is perpetrating in Gaza with American taxpayer dollars. Despite systemic efforts to smear and silence Americans who oppose the genocide in Gaza, the Israeli government’s war crimes have been exposed to our nation — and our nation is rejecting it.

“This genocide must end. Our government must put America first and stop enabling Israeli war crimes with American weapons. We encourage all Americans to continue raising their voices, demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire deal, and standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and dignity.”

Earlier today, CAIR condemned Israeli forces for singling out and beating Black American labor rights activist Chris Smalls.

Yesterday, CAIR condemned the killing by an illegal Israeli settler of Palestinian human rights activist Awdah Hathaleen, who was recently denied entry to the U.S. and who helped film “No Other Land” documentary highlighting Israel’s apartheid occupation of the West Bank.

Also yesterday, CAIR welcomed the recognition of the Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza by two prominent Israeli human rights organizations.
