Robert Burley, 38, from Eaton Rapids, was arrested for allegedly using a racist slur and spitting on his neighbor.

“We commend law enforcement authorities for taking this alleged racist assault seriously and for charging it as a hate crime,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid. “Racist behavior and hate-driven attacks have no place in our communities and must be addressed with the full force of the law. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in their neighborhoods.”

Walid said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
