The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for the removal of International Criminal Court (ICJ) Judge Julia Sebutinde, who said that “the Lord is counting on [her] to stand on the side of Israel.”
Sebutinde was the sole judge who dissented to the ICJ’s July 2024 finding that Israel was “under an obligation to cease immediately all new settlement activities, and to evacuate all settlers from the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”
According to Zeteo: “Sebutinde…was also the only judge to vote against all six provisional measures the ICJ issued in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.”
In a recent statement explaining her actions, she said she believed the world has entered the end times and that she voted against the ICJ’s ruling because she believed that God was counting on her to stand on the side of Israel.

In a statement, CAIR said:
“The International Court of Justice plays a critical role in upholding international law and human rights for all people, regardless of religion or nationality. Judge Sebutinde’s admission that her rulings were influenced not by legal reasoning, but by a belief in religious prophecy, is a direct violation of the principles of judicial impartiality and international justice.
“Such statements raise serious concerns about the fairness and legitimacy of her judicial decisions and call into question the integrity of the ICJ itself. No judge should allow personal religious beliefs or political allegiances to override the rule of law.
“We call for the immediate removal of Judge Sebutinde from the ICJ. Her continued presence on the court undermines its credibility and its mission to deliver justice free from bias or outside influence.”
Last year, CAIR welcomed a detailed submission by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) outlining evidence of Israel’s violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention in its war on Gaza.
Also last year, CAIR applauded the International Criminal Court (ICC) for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide.
CAIR previously welcomed the ICJ’s ruling that Israeli settlement activity is illegal.
