CAIR-Florida Condemns Hateful Anti-Palestinian ‘Make Gaza Flat Again’ Hat Displayed at Miami Beach Salon; Calls for Public Apology

The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida), the state’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the public display of a racist, anti-Palestinian hat at Wow Brows, a beauty salon in Bay Harbor Islands, Miami Beach.

CAIR-Florida is calling on salon owner Dari Moskovitch to issue a public apology in addition to removing the offensive display.

On August 28, the Miami New Times reported that Wow Brows faced backlash after displaying a hat emblazoned with the phrase “Make Gaza Flat Again.”

The article further stated: “Asked whether she could see how the statement, “Make Gaza Flat Again,” doesn’t provide that context — and that to the contrary, it might be seen as calling for the genocide of Palestinians — Moskovitch said that was not her intention.

“Did I say, ‘Make Gaza Flat Again With [Dead] People?’ Did I say, ‘Make Gaza Flat Again With [Dead] Babies?’ ‘Make Gaza Flat Again With All the Population There [Dead]?’ No. ‘Make Gaza Flat Again.'”

In a statement, CAIR-Florida Communications DirectorWilfredo A. Ruiz said:

“There is no place for hate in Miami Beach or anywhere in Florida. A public display calling for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians is not only racist and hateful—it is dangerous. We expect more from the salon’s owner than simply removing the display out of fear of losing customers. Ms. Moskovitch owes her neighbors, and all Floridians, a clear and unequivocal public apology.”

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
