CAIR Calls on U.S. to Drop ‘Neo-Colonial’ Proposal for Tony Blair to Govern Post-Genocide Gaza

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Trump administration to drop a “neo-colonial” proposal for former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair govern a post-genocide Gaza.

According to media reports, Blair would oversee Gaza in the aftermath of Israel’s almost two year genocide in Gaza, which has slaughtered at least 65,000 of Palestinians – a figure that is likely “significantly undercounted” – forcibly starved and displaced nearly the entire population and destroyed vast swathes of civilian infrastructure.

According to a new study by the British Medical Journal, civilians in Gaza are suffering injuries more commonly seen in trained soldiers. That study “found that some types of wounds – such as burns or injuries to legs – were more common among civilians in Gaza than among US soldiers fighting in recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

A secret Israeli intelligence database shows that least 83 percent of Palestinians slaughtered in Gaza were civilians – not combatants. Even former Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi acknowledged that more than 200,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured since the start of Israel’s Gaza genocide.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“The suggestion that Tony Blair—a key architect of the disastrous Iraq occupation and an apologist for Israel’s war crimes—should take control of Gaza is insane and obscene. The Trump administration should reject this neo-colonial proposal, which insults the people of the region and threatens to spark more conflict.

“Palestinians do not need a British war criminal to govern them. They need freedom, justice, and an end to the decades of brutal occupation and apartheid. Any attempt to impose outside western leadership on Gaza after the genocide would almost certainly lead to more disaster.

“The Palestinian people have the same right as all people to determine their own future, free from foreign interference or occupation.”

He reiterated CAIR’s call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, full humanitarian access to Gaza, and the initiation of international accountability mechanisms for all war crimes.

Yesterday, CAIR and its Washington chapter (CAIR-WA) today welcomed a decision by Microsoft to disable services used by units of the Israeli military to spy on civilians in Gaza during its ongoing genocide.

Washington, D.C., based CAIR also called on the American Medical Association (AMA) to issue a statement demanding the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the Gazan doctor who walked toward Israeli tanks in an iconic video, and who is reportedly in deteriorating condition due to torture and abuse after being kidnapped by Israeli forces.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
