The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for the release of Heng Guan, a Chinese citizen who documented the Chinese government’s Uyghur concentration camps, from ICE custody.
Guan, who fled China after gathering evidence of human-rights violations against the nation’s Uyghur population, is reportedly at risk of being returned to the country after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“The Chinese government, which has undertaken genocidal policies toward Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities, has a record of disappearing anyone who dares to expose their crimes,” said CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We urge the Trump administration to immediately release Mr. Guan and ensure he is safe from any reprisals from the Chinese government.”
