City of Austin to Declare Jan. 22nd as ‘CAIR-Austin Day’ Honoring Its Civic Engagement and Advocacy Work

On ThursdayJanuary 22 (9 a.m. CT), the City of Austin will honor CAIR-Austin, the local chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, through an official proclamation.

The proclamation will designate January 22 of each year as CAIR-Austin Day, recognizing the organization’s vital role in protecting the civil rights of Austin’s Muslim community and promoting civic engagement.

Shaimaa Zayan, CAIR-Austin Operations Manager, said in a statement:

“By signing this proclamation and declaring January 22 as CAIR-Austin Day, the City of Austin reaffirms its commitment to justice, inclusion and mutual respect. This proclamation carries particular significance given its timing and stands as a lasting testament to the City’s dedication to fostering belonging, cultivating a welcoming environment and ensuring that all residents feel seen, heard and represented in their government. We hope this recognition contributes to healing within our community and strengthens a sense of safety and solidarity for all.

“CAIR-Austin marks this day by renewing its unwavering commitment to justice and advocacy, giving the Austin Muslim community a voice and empowering them with constitutional tools to enable them to actively engage in their city and state.”
