The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced the release of its Eid Everywhere Campaign Toolkit, a resource developed to help parents, students, educators, CAIR chapters, and community advocates secure recognition and religious accommodations for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in K–12 schools and colleges nationwide.
[NOTE: Eid al-Fitr (EED-al-FITTER), or “feast of fast-breaking,” is the first of the two major Muslim holidays after the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan. The second holiday, Eid al-Adha (EED-al-ODD-ha), comes near the end of the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca.]
CAIR encourages communities to use the toolkit to engage school leaders ahead of upcoming Eid observances and to advocate for clear, written accommodation policies that are applied consistently.

The toolkit provides clear guidance on excused absences for Eid, avoiding major exams or mandatory assignments during Ramadan and Eid, and adopting inclusive policies that respect Muslim religious observances—especially in districts and campuses with growing Muslim populations.
“Muslim students should never be penalized for observing their faith,” said Robert S. McCaw, CAIR’s Government Affairs Department Director. “Eid Everywhere is about ensuring Muslim students across the country can celebrate Eid without penalty, exclusion, or academic disadvantage. We want to see Eid days clearly recognized on school calendars nationwide, just as other major religious and cultural holidays are. No student should miss exams, fall behind in coursework, or be excluded from school activities for observing their faith. Placing Eid on school calendars strengthens true inclusivity, supports student well-being, and affirms our shared commitment to religious freedom and equal treatment in every school and campus.”
CAIR also released its Toolkit on Promoting Muslim Civic Engagement in Local & State Governments as a comprehensive resource for Muslim community members, Islamic organizations, and allies, serving as a strategic advocacy guide with sample resolutions, proclamations, executive orders, and legislation from this year and past years that address key issues impacting Muslim communities nationwide.
