CAIR: Under attack by their own congressman – Washington Post

Roy would take on legal battles involving a proposed housing development in the Dallas area, which Texas Republicans claim would impose Islamic law on residents — an allegation the project’s planners deny — and the state’s private school voucher program, which excluded about two dozen Islamic schools. Roy supports eliminating the tax-exempt status of Muslim advocacy organizations such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations. His staff did not respond to questions about whether his anti-Muslim rhetoric could put constituents at risk.

Nationally, political attacks against Muslims are on the rise. Republican members of Congress, and political candidates, have ramped up their Islamophobic rhetoric. In December, members of the House formed the “Sharia Free America Caucus,” vowing to stop “radical Islam.” The Council on American-Islamic Relations has labeled the caucus an “extremist organization” as well as an “anti-Muslim hate group.” CAIR said 2025 was the riskiest for American Muslims to participate in civic activism since the period after Sept. 11, 2001. The council also said it received a record 8,683 complaints of discrimination against Muslims last year.

CAIR-OK: Eid Festival for Afghans – Oklahoman

Where: YMCA Rockwell Plaza Branch, 8300 Glade Ave.

The event will be hosted by the YMCA-Rockwell Plaza, with the Council on American-Islamic Relations-Oklahoma, as co-sponsor. All Afghan neighbors are invited to join in the celebration, which will include halal food, activities for families and gifts for children. The YMCA is hosting a toy drive to collect toys that will be distributed that day.
