CAIR-CA Joins 1,000+ Muslim Delegates for 11th Annual National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill

TheCalifornia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) recently joined more than 1,000 American Muslim delegates—a record number—for the U.S. Council of Muslim Organization (USCMO)’s 11th Annual National Muslim Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C.

Over the course of the two days, CAIR-CA attended nearly 30 meetings with members of Congress and congressional staff to advance policies that address critical issues impacting the American Muslim community, in addition to drop-by visits across Capitol Hill.

The primary focus of these meetings was to urge elected officials to:

  1. Oppose the anti-Muslim Caucus and discriminatory legislation.
  2. Demand an end to endless wars and the “Israel-First” agenda.
  3. Defend free speech and protect the rights of immigrant communities.

In a statement, CAIR-CA CEO Hussam Ayloush said:

“During a time when anti-Muslim rhetoric is being weaponized in the highest levels of government, immigrant communities are living in fear of cruel and unlawful policies, and American taxpayer dollars are being used to fund illegal wars abroad, silence is not an option. Political change requires building grassroots power, developing coalitions, and engaging directly with elected officials.

“USCMO’s National Muslim Advocacy Day—with this year’s record-breaking number of congressional engagements—is proof that American Muslims are not standing on the sidelines in the face of injustice. We are showing up and demanding accountability from those in power to ensure our country truly stands for justice, freedom, and human rights for all people, both at home and abroad.”

CAIR-CA is a chapter of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
