Action Alert: CAIR Urges Muslims Nationwide to Pray, Donate for Texas Hurricane Relief

screenshot 2017 08 28 15 07 34(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/28/18) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on Muslims across the country to donate to assist in relief efforts for those caught up in the massive damage and flooding resulting from Hurricane Harvey.

“We urge American Muslims, and all other Americans, to do whatever they can to assist those impacted by Hurricane Harvey,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “Natural disasters know no faith or race, and require every individual to act within their own capacity to help and protect others.”

Awad also urged Muslims and Americans of every faith and background to pray for those suffering from the impact of Hurricane Harvey.

He cited the Quran, Islam’s revealed text, which states: “O you who have attained to faith! Seek aid in steadfast patience and prayer: for, behold, God is with those who are patient in adversity.” (2:153)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The first to be summoned to paradise on the Day of Resurrection will be those who praise God in prosperity and adversity.” Al-Tirmidhi
