A public forum on how to recognize, report and prevent hate crimes is scheduled to be held Wednesday evening at the Sacramento Police Department.
The annual Community Hate Crime Prevention and Awareness Forum, sponsored by the Organization of Chinese Americans, will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception, followed by a panel discussion from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the department’s community room, 5770 Freeport Blvd.
Panelists will include Georgette Imura of the Satender Justice Coalition; Basim Elkarra, executive director of the local chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations; and deputy police chief Brian Louie. Assemblyman Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park) will be the guest speaker.
Last month, Eng held a forum at the Capitol that centered on how hate crimes are reported and whether public safety can be improved at state parks – such as at Lake Natoma, where Satender Singh was fatally punched in July. (MORE)
