The 12-year-old sister of one of the men charged with plotting to attack Fort Dix alleges she was assaulted during an apparent bias incident at her Cherry Hill public school, according to a Islamic civil rights group.
The sister of Mohamad Schnewer, one of six man arrested in May in connection with the alleged terrorist plot, says she was punched and choked at the Carusi Middle School last month, said a spokeswoman for the New Jersey Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
The boy who allegedly attacked the girl said, “There’s a terrorist on the loose,” and told her, “Your brother will never come back,” said Afsheen Shamsi, the CAIR-NJ spokeswoman.
The group plans a news conference this afternoon at its Princeton office to demand that the FBI and the state Office of Bias Crimes investigate and prosecute the assailant.
Shamsi said the incident was reported to the school. The girl was shown yearbook photographs and asked to look at students in the cafeteria, but was unable to identify a suspect, said Shamsi.
Shamsi said the girl’s family told the FBI agent in charge of their relative’s case about the incident, but she said they were asked by school personnel not to report the incident to the police or other authorities.
Shamsi said the girl was “traumatized” by the incident and is now living in Jordan with her mother. (MORE)
