Islam’s holiest month began on Monday and American Muslim communities around the Delaware Valley are holding “Sharing Ramadan” events through the month.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar when fasting, charity, prayer, and peace is prescribed for all Muslims through September 30th. Justin Peyton is executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Pennsylvania:
“Various Muslim communities invite their neighbors to the local mosques to share in the Iftar dinners, observe prayers and have the opportunity to ask questions about Islam and Muslims in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.”
