Muslim principal who wears hijab ‘reassigned’ following an online ‘anti-Muslim witch hunt’
(DFW, TEXAS, 5/27/2026) —On Thursday, May 28, the DFW chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW) will join Faith Power Alliance, MAS-Dallas, interfaith partners, and educators to call for reinstatement of Shayma Alzubi as principal of a Fort Worth ISD school after she was reassigned from her post due to what is being called an online “anti-Muslim witch hunt.”
Fort Worth ISD said it will reassign a new principal Shayma Alzubi after the announcement of her hiring showing her in an Islamic head scarf, or hijab, sparked a bigoted backlash online.

In recent month, Texas Muslims have been targeted by a vicious campaign of hate by some political leaders in that state.

The Dallas Morning News quoted CAIR-DFW’s Executive Director stating the civil rights organization “has received hundreds of reports of harassment against Muslims in North Texas in recent months.” He said: “We urge public officials and community leaders to reject bigotry and to instead foster a safety environment for all Texans.”

Washington, D.C., based CAIR noted that its latest civil rights report documented 8,683 anti-Muslim bias complaints in 2025 – the highest number ever recorded by the organization since it began publishing civil rights reports in 1996.
CAIR encourages community members facing bias or hate incidents to report them to law enforcement and to CAIR.
