Muslim civil rights and advocacy group calls on Alabama political leaders to denounce Tuberville’s despicable conduct
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and its Alabama chapter (CAIR-AL) today called on political leaders in the state to denounce Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s “increasingly unhinged” conduct, including his embrace Sandy Hook Massacre denier Alex Jones and false claims that “sharia law” is taking over America.
Tuberville appeared on InfoWars, where he repeated various bigoted conspiracy theories, on Oct. 9th.

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“Tommy Tuberville is losing it. We strongly condemn the senator’s increasingly unhinged conduct, including his despicable decision to embrace Sandy Hook denier Alex Jones, and we call on all Alabama political leaders to do the same.
“Between Mr. Tuberville’s delusional rantings about Sharia law taking over America and his unhinged appearance on Alex Jones’ show, Mr. Tuberville is behaving less like a U.S. senator and more like an internet troll who needs his computer taken away.
“Senator Tuberville must either come to his senses or voluntarily step away from public life before he further embarrasses himself and further insults the American people, including the parents of children killed at Sandy Hook.”
The Alabama Muslim community has repeatedly invited Senator Tuberville to visit a local mosque, meet with Alabama Muslim community members, and dialogue about the concerns he has raised. Tuberville has ignored the invitations.
Yesterday, CAIR-AL called Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s bill purporting to ban “Sharia law” an “unconstitutional attack on religious freedom.”
