CAIR Applauds International Sociological Association Suspension of Israeli Association Over Gaza Genocide

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today applauded a decision by the International Sociological Association (ISA) to suspend the membership of the Israeli Sociological Society over its failure to condemn the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

[NOTE: “The International Sociological Association (ISA) was founded in 1949 under the auspices of UNESCO. It is a member of the International Science Council and has NGO consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).”]

In its statement, the ISA said:

“The ISA reiterates its declaration that, as part of its public stance against the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, it has no institutional relationships with Israeli public institutions.

“We regret that the Israeli Sociological Society has not taken a clear position condemning the dramatic situation in Gaza. In a decision that reflects the extraordinary gravity of the current situation, the Executive Committee has decided to suspend the collective membership of the Israeli Sociological Society (ISS).”

CAIR said:

“We applaud the decision of the International Sociological Association (ISA) to suspend the membership of the Israeli Sociological Society due to its failure to condemn Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. This principled stance by the ISA should prompt similar actions by all other international organizations that interact with related associations in Israel.”

Earlier today, CAIR renewed its call for the release Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the Gazan doctor who walked toward Israeli tanks in an iconic video, as fears of his abuse in Israeli detention grow.

Yesterday, CAIR said Israel has turned Gaza into a “human slaughterhouse” after Israeli forces murdered at least 69 people, including 19 children, seven women and a number of aid seekers.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
