Johnson County Supervisor Jon Green called some online comments about the proclamation “vile, Islamophobic, misogynist.”
In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:
“We applaud the leadership shown by Johnson County Supervisor Jon Green in rejecting the hateful response to the World Hijab Day proclamation. Supervisor Green should be commended for standing in defense of mutual respect. Efforts to recognize diverse cultural and religious traditions, including the recognition of World Hijab Day, strengthen our communities and support freedom of religion. We call on other public officials and community leaders nationwide to join in rejecting Islamophobia and all other forms of bigotry.”
