CAIR Asks Muslims to Support Fund for Family of Slain VA Officer

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/14/06) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on members of the Washington-area Muslim community to contribute to a fund set up to support the family of Fairfax County Police Detective Vicky Armel, who was gunned down outside her police station last Monday. Armel was the mother of two young children.

“We all have to pull together as one community to honor Detective Armel’s service by helping to support her family,” said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad, who is a resident of Northern Virginia. Awad also asked people of all faiths to pray for the speedy recovery of a second officer who was injured in the attack.

At the request of Detective Armel’s family, a trust fund was established for her children.
