(WASHINGTON D.C., 11/1/2021) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for a hate crime investigation into anti-Semitic vandalism at a Jewish fraternity at George Washington University in Washington D.C. CAIR also welcomed the removal of an Alabama probate judge who made racist comments.
The Alpha-Pi chapter of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at George Washington University said on Sunday that their house was broken into and Jewish texts were desecrated. According to the chapter president, the fraternity members returned to the house at 2 a.m. after having been out, and discovered hot sauce sprayed on the walls and cabinets and Torah ripped and covered with blue liquid.

“Law enforcement must investigate this appalling incident for a possible hate motive,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We stand in solidarity with all those targeted by hatred and bigotry.”
In Alabama, a probate judge accused of making racist comments was removed from the bench last Friday by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary. The judge was caught on tape making racist remarks and describing a meme mocking the Black Lives Matter movement. He was also accused of making racist remarks to the only Black employee in his office. The Judiciary Court ruled that he had violated the numerous Canons of Judicial Ethics, created a hostile work environment, and demeaned employees and citizens.

“Individuals who hold racist views have no place in the judiciary,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison. “We welcome the removal of the probate judge in Alabama and urge legal institutions nationwide to combat systemic racism and white supremacy.”
Hooper and Allison said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, white supremacy and all other forms of bigotry.
