CAIR Calls for Hate Crime Probe of Racist Vandalism Targeting North Dakota Immigrant Business Center

(WASHINGTON D.C., 9/8/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate racist vandalism targeting an immigrant business center in Fargo, N.D., as a hate crime.

Fargo’s International Market Plaza was reportedly vandalized about three days ago in two separate incidents. In the first incident, the name of a white supremacist group was spray painted on the doors of the center. In the second incident, the name was spray painted over a mural on the side of the building. A report on the vandalism was filed with Fargo police.

“We condemn this attempt to intimidate members of the immigrant community and urge community leaders to speak out against racism and xenophobia,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We urge local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the apparent bias motive for this vandalism.”

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
