(WASHINGTON D.C., 4/16/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for an incident at a Vermont college in which urine was reportedly poured outside a Muslim prayer space on campus.
Middlebury College is investigating an incident in which a substance believed to be urine was poured outside a space the Muslim Students Association uses to pray. Muslim students were inside the prayer space when the incident occurred last weekend in the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from break of dawn to sunset.

“While the motivation for this act of vandalism remains unknown, it is only prudent for law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive, particularly since the incident occurred at a prayer space during the holy month of Ramadan,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
He noted that just yesterday, CAIR’s Philadelphia chapter welcomed positive steps by Delaware’s Capital School District, where teachers and students made bigoted remarks targeting a black Muslim middle school student.
Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
