(WASHINGTON D.C., 4/15/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned flyers promoting the racist Ku Klux Klan (KKK) distributed in Charleston, Ill., and expressed solidarity with local residents.
Flyers promoting the KKK were found around Charleston and on the campus of East Illinois University this week. In a statement, the president of East Illinois University said the incident had been reported to the FBI and was being investigated by campus police.

“We condemn this disturbing attempt by white supremacists to intimidate students and community members,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison. “We stand with Charleston residents and East Illinois University students against bigotry and racism.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
