CAIR Calls Israel’s Massacre of Gaza Family ‘Latest Blatant Ceasefire Violation,’ Calls on Trump to Intervene

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called the Israeli occupation’s massacre of a family in Gaza as its “latest blatant ceasefire violation” and called on President Trump to demand an end to these steadily increasing attacks.

CAIR also today called on the State Department and the United Nations to investigate multiple reports of evidence of torture on the bodies of Palestinian detainees returned to Gaza.

In the deadliest incidents since the ceasefire began, Israeli forces murdered 11 members of the Abu Shaaban family – including seven children and three women – when the bus they were in was hit by a tank shell in northern Gaza as they were trying to reach their home to inspect following Israel’s bombardment of the area.

Under the ceasefire agreement, Israel is to return bodies of Palestinians it is holding to Gaza. Many of the 135 bodies returned so far to show signs of torture or execution.

In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:

“The Israeli government’s massacre of a family traveling to assess the remains of their home is the latest deliberate and blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement. The Trump administration must demand that Netanyahu stop using American taxpayer dollars and American weapons to sabotage the ceasefire agreement that America brokered so that he can restart the genocide in Gaza.

“The State Department and the United Nations must also investigate horrific signs of torture and extrajudicial killing found on the bodies of returned Palestinian hostages. Torturing people to death after kidnapping them and holding them without charge is another example of not only international law, but also U.S. law related to foreign aid recipients.

“Human rights are not optional – they should be universal and must be applied universally.”

Last week, CAIR said that the Trump administration must hold the Israeli government accountable for trying to “sabotage” the Gaza ceasefire agreement by killing seven Palestinians, limiting the entry of food and other humanitarian aid, and banning fuel.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
