The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Biden administration to act on the findings of a recent State Department report detailing human rights abuses by the Israeli and Indian governments.
The report’s section on Israel documents “credible reports” of more than a dozen types of human rights abuses, including extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary detention, conflict-related sexual violence, and the punishment of family members for alleged offenses by a relative. Among the Indian government’s abuses listed in the report were religious persecution, torture, arbitrary arrests and detentions, inhuman or degrading treatment by the police, life-threatening prison conditions and “extrajudicial killings by the government or its agents”.

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“The fact that the Israeli and Indian governments have been committing massive human rights abuses should come as a shock to no one. It is time for the Biden administration to start listening to its own State Department and demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and hold both the Israeli and Indian governments to account for their atrocities.”
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
