(WASHINGTON D.C., 12/29/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Biden administration to stand up to a new Israeli government composed of openly racist and genocidal far-right politicians.

“Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right government has dropped all pretenses by openly embracing racism, Islamophobia, apartheid and ethnic cleansing,” said CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “The Biden administration must stand up to these far-right extremists by condemning them, refusing to cooperate with them, and stopping the blank check that funds the Israeli apartheid government’s human rights abuses. Business as usual is not acceptable.”
Mitchell noted that CAIR welcomed an investigation by a UN commission of inquiry into the Israeli government’s system of apartheid against Palestinians.
He also cited an open letter by five former European ministers that labeled Israel’s policies against Palestinians as “the crime of apartheid.”
Mitchell added that Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the Presbyterian Church USA have recently labeled Israel an apartheid state.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing also recognized that Israel is committing apartheid against Palestinians.
