The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the nation, today calls on the Capitol Police and House Ethics committee to investigate Representative Mike Ezell (R-MS) for reportedly assaulting a Palestinian American woman, Sumer Mobarak. She was asking the Congressman to stop the killing in Palestine while advocating on Capitol Hill with CODE PINK.
“You are disgusting and racist. How shameful that you even work in this administration and that you put your hands on a person. Shame on you, shame on you,” said Sumer to Ezell after allegedly being assaulted. “You are the violent one, not the people protesting peacefully,” she continued.

Sumer has filed assault charges against the congressman with Capitol police.
In a statement, CAIR Government Affairs Department Coordinator Shafiquil Muhshna said:
“It is truly shameful for a member of Congress to physically assault a woman for daring to question his support for the genocide in Gaza. If nothing is done about this crime, it will send a message that members of Congress can flout the law. We urge the Capitol Police and the House ethics committee to take this incident seriously. This is not the kind of behavior we should expect or tolerate from lawmakers.”
