CAIR Calls on Iowa DOT to Cancel ‘M3INKPF’ Personalized License Plate

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Iowa Department of Transportation to cancel a personalized license plate apparently making reference to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s manifesto “Mein Kampf.”

Officials asked the vehicle’s owner to change the personalized license plate “M3INKPF” after receiving complaints. CAIR is asking that the plate be canceled.

“Purveyors of hate often resort to such subterfuge to promote bigotry and societal divisions,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We urge Iowa Department of Transportation officials to cancel the license plate and to monitor their system for other attempts to spread messages of hate.”

He noted that earlier this month, CAIR condemned racist, anti-immigrant posters posted in Hampton, Iowa.

Hooper said Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
