(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/19/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on President Biden to personally intervene to save the more than 30 premature babies left to die in Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza after a forced evacuation of the facility by Israeli troops.
A United Nations team that briefly visited the site said 291 patients were left at the hospital after Israeli troops forced others to evacuate. Those left included 32 babies in extremely critical condition. Israeli troops are occupying the hospital.

“Mr. President, with one phone call to the Israeli government, you could help save all or at least some of these babies breathing their last breaths without proper treatment in a devastated medical facility,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “If you cannot bring yourself to call for an end to the ongoing slaughter of civilians in Gaza, at least do what you can to save these babies.”
He noted that earlier today, CAIR said the “Israeli genocide must be stopped” after an attack on a UN school in Gaza killed least 50 people.
Hooper added that CAIR said the international community must take action as UN agencies report that Palestinians now face starvation, disease, and genocide at the hands of the Israeli government.
