The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Trump administration to change course as the new Amnesty International (AI) annual report, “The State of the World’s Human Rights,” describes Israel’s “live-streamed genocide” in Gaza.

That report states: “Amnesty International’s research found that Israel committed acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza, thus committing genocide.”
AI’s report also states in part:
“[T]he world has been made audience to a live-streamed genocide. States watched on as if powerless, as Israel killed thousands upon thousands of Palestinians, wiping out entire multigenerational families, destroying homes, livelihoods, hospitals and schools.
“2024 will be remembered for how Israel’s military occupation grew ever more brazen and deadly, for the way the USA, Germany and a handful of other European states supported Israel; the way the USA, under the Biden administration, repeatedly vetoed UN Security Council resolutions calling for a ceasefire and states continued arms transfers to Israel.
“In 2024, Israel and its powerful allies, first among them the USA, claimed that or acted as if international law did not apply to them, wilfully ignoring orders of the International Court of Justice and indictments of the International Criminal Court…
“Israel’s actions in Gaza have taken a catastrophic toll on Palestinian civilians and amounted to genocide. Meanwhile, Israel’s system of apartheid and unlawful occupation has become increasingly violent in the occupied West Bank, marked by a sharp increase in arbitrary detentions, unlawful killings and state-backed attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinian civilians.”
Last week, CAIR called on the world community to break Israel’s “medieval siege” on Gaza that is resulting in the starvation deaths of Palestinian children.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“The Trump administration’s complicity is the main reason this genocide is still taking place. If our government stops its support for genocide, the slaughter will stop. President Trump must listen to the majority of Americans who don’t support the genocide.
“Every world leader and policymaker must read Amnesty International’s new report outlining in stark terms Israel’s live-streamed genocide. They must then ask themselves why they remain silent and inactive – or even complicit – in the face of Israel’s clear racial apartheid, torture, forced starvation, destruction of civilian infrastructure, mass slaughter of women and children, and ethnic cleansing.
“Israel’s impunity must end, and the Palestinian people must be recognized as human beings who should be allowed to live in freedom and dignity.”
Yesterday, CAIR called for the expulsion from the U.S. of Itamar Ben-Gvir, a convicted terrorist supporter and far-right Israeli government official, after he allegedly directed a member of his security detail to harass a woman wearing a keffiyeh while visiting Capitol Hill to participate in the ongoing U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations’ (USCMO) 10th Annual National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
