The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on media outlets in the United States and worldwide to speak out after Israel killed Al Jazeera journalists Ismail al-Ghoul and his cameraman Rami al-Refee.
Those two Al Jazeera Arabic journalists were killed in an Israeli air attack in the Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City. They were reportedly wearing “press” vests and their car was marked as a press vehicle.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“The Israeli government continues its campaign of targeting journalists who report on their daily atrocities in the Gaza genocide. How many more reporters, how many more innocent people have to be killed by this rogue state before the Biden administration speaks out and takes concrete action to end the genocide it is enabling?
”Media outlets and journalists in our nation and worldwide must speak out forcefully in defense of their colleagues in Gaza who are under daily threat of attack and death by a far-right, genocidal government determined to silence their voices.”
He noted that the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has documented the killing of 111 journalists and media workers in Gaza but says the real number may be higher.
CAIR has previously condemned the killing of journalists by Israeli forces.
