The Colorado chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CO), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned an alleged anti-Asian attack targeting Boulder City Council Member Tara Winer.
That attack reportedly occurred Friday at a celebration of Asian culture. A man allegedly yelled yelling racial slurs against Asian people punched Winer in the face and threw her to the ground. Boulder police arrested 26-year-old Chase Raskin on charges of felony menacing and two counts of third-degree assault.
“We condemn this alleged anti-Asian attack and stand in solidarity with the Asian-American community as it is increasingly targeted by hate,” said CAIR-CO Board Chair Krista Cole. “Unfortunately, rising bigotry nationwide is resulting in violence targeting minority communities. This disturbing trend must be addressed by political and community leaders.”
She noted that last month, CAIR-CO condemn racist and anti-immigrant signs bolted to bus stops in Denver.
Cole said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
