CAIR Commends Biden Admin Official for ‘Courageous and Principled’ Resignation Over Gaza War Crimes

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today commended former Biden administration official Tariq Habash for his “courageous and principled” decision to resign in protest of President Biden’s support for ongoing war crimes against civilians in Gaza.

Tariq Habash, formerly a Department of Education policy adviser appointed by the Biden administration, quit yesterday to protest the administration’s support of Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“We know for a fact that Tariq Habash is just one of many public servants in the executive branch who are deeply distressed by President Biden’s support for Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocidal war crimes against Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

“We commend Mr. Habash for his selfless, courageous and principled stance, and we also commend those still serving in the administration, including American Muslims, who have been internally using their voices to call on President Biden to stop this horrific violence.

“We call on President Biden to listen to principled voices in his administration like Mr. Habash and to the broader American public, most of whom want a ceasefire and the pursuit of a just, lasting peace.”

He noted that yesterday, CAIR condemned White House National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby’s comments calling South Africa’s case at the UN’s top court accusing the Israeli government of genocide in Gaza “meritless.”
