“According to Pew Research, Muslims make up nine percent of America’s state and federal prison population, higher than the percentage of Muslims in our country’s total population,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “They are one of the most neglected and overlooked groups in our country. They face unique challenges both within the prison system and after their release. We urge everyone to attend this event, learn why our advocacy matters and discover ways you can make a difference.”
Confirmed panelists include Muslim chaplains, formerly incarcerated Muslims and Muslims who have worked within the prison system. The panel discussion will be preceded by a screening of a short documentary film on Islam in U.S. prisons and followed by a Q&A session.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
