(WASHINGTON, D.C., 4/24/06) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today condemned attacks Monday evening (local time) on the Egyptian resort city of Dahab that left a number of people dead or injured. Egyptian authorities said the blasts were likely caused by bombs.
In a statement, the Washington-based Islamic civil rights and advocacy group said:
“We condemn these cowardly attacks, offer condolences to the loved ones of all those who were killed or injured and call for the swift apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrators.”
There have been a string of terror attacks in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula over the past 18 months.
CAIR, America’s largest Islamic civil liberties group, has 32 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
