War crime committed as U.N. official warns of Israel’s ‘starvation campaign’ in Gaza
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the reported deliberate destruction of a mosque minaret in Gaza by “bored” Israeli soldiers.
An Israeli soldier reportedly posted video online of the mosque minaret’s destruction in Gaza, calling it, “Things to do when the tank crew is bored in Gaza.”
That war crime comes as a U.N. expert said that Israel was destroying Gaza’s food system as part of a “starvation campaign.”
“The intentional destruction of a religious structure, with no possible claim of military necessity, is just another of the countless Israeli war crimes we have witnessed in recent months,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “International law and human rights norms are being delegitimized daily by the Biden administration’s complicity in the genocide, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing being carried out by Israel’s far-right government.”
