The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the far-right Israeli government’s reported flattening of whole areas of Gaza, including homes and mosques, by civilian contractors.
A video uploaded by an employee of one of those companies shows the bulldozing of homes in Rafah and the alleged plan to destroy a mosque. In the video, the worker says he has been there for days and, “We have another year to go.”
Previously, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who is a member of the security cabinet, called for the “total annihilation” of Rafah and other areas of Gaza.
Washington, D.C., based CAIR has repeatedly condemned statements and actions by officials of the genocidal Netanyahu government clearly calling for ethnic cleansing of Gaza and for the destruction of Islamic institutions and holy sites.
CAIR’s call comes as the head of UNICEF says the entire northern Gaza population is “at imminent risk” of death. In addition to that waring, Rachael Cummings from Save the Children International said, “We are seeing the apocalypse now unfolding in the north of Gaza.” More than 100,000 people are currently without food, water and medicine resulting from Israel’s ongoing implementation of the so-called “generals plan” of extermination of every person in north Gaza.
The Associated Press reports that “there are no fully functional hospitals in all of Gaza” and the Washington Post outlines new reports of Israel using Palestinians as human shields.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“By systematically destroying mosques, churches, schools, hospitals, and entire cities across Gaza while pursuing a campaign of extermination, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people, the far-right Israeli government – enabled and excused by a complicit Biden administration – is clearly guilty of the crime of genocide. Our government has the ability and legal duty to stop this genocide, regardless of President Biden’s remarkable indifference to human suffering and steadfast subservience to a genocidal foreign government.”
On Friday, CAIR predicted that President Biden would again remain silent after Israeli reportedly slaughtered 50 Palestinian children in Gaza with U.S.-supplied weapons.
Israel has killed more than 43,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, and some 3,000 people have been killed by Israel in Lebanon.
